Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead

Sayulita transforms for three days at the end of October into one of the most spectacular Day of the Dead celebrations on the Nayarit coast. Thousands of Ojos de Dios hang across the streets. More than 30 elaborate ofrendas fill the plaza. A costumed street parade with giant Catrina figures leads to a midnight procession to the cemetery with mariachi and fireworks. Families decorate graves with marigolds and candles while the town shares pan de muerto, tamales, and atole.
