Officially it's San Francisco, Nayarit, but nobody calls it that. San Pancho is one headland north of Sayulita and a world calmer: one main street, a long golden beach that empties out by dinner, and a community that has deliberately kept the party small.

It's the classic Sayulita day trip: coffee and galleries in the afternoon, then the best sunset spot on this stretch of coast.

The beach

Wide, uncrowded, and gorgeous. The shore break is punchier than Sayulita's, though, so it's more for walking and sunsets than casual swimming.

Galleries, the cultural center, and a creative crowd give San Pancho its personality. Check for live music and events in season.

Dinner & sunset

Grab a table near the beach entrance an hour before sundown. This is the sunset the whole coast talks about.

Getting there

Ten minutes north on Highway 200 by taxi or the local bus, so it's easy to combine with a Sayulita morning.
