Where the Boats Go, and Where They Leave From

The boat trips people come here for do not leave from the town beach. Marietas boats go from Punta de Mita or La Cruz, further round the bay, and the good operators get you there. Ask how you reach the boat before you ask the price.

We have 5 boat operators on the map. Ally Cat Tours sails catamarans to the Marietas and runs you to the marina on its own bus. OCEANO Dive and Surf takes day trips to the Marietas, Los Arcos and Yelapa. Sayulita Surf Center runs fishing and spearfishing boats, guided by a fisherman born in town.

The Sayulita Boat Tour Guide

The Hidden Beach: Ask Before You Pay

Playa del Amor, the hidden beach inside the Marietas, is the photo on every brochure. It is also inside a national park, with a daily visitor cap and only authorised operators allowed in. You wear a helmet and a life jacket, and you swim in through a marked corridor.

Plenty of Marietas trips never land there. They circle the islands, stop to snorkel and head home, which is a fine day but a different one. If the beach is the point, get it in writing before you pay.

Three Different Days on the Water

Ally Cat is the full day out. The catamaran carries a captain, a chef and crew, with kayaks, paddleboards, snorkel gear, an open bar and a Mexican-style lunch. Staying south of Sayulita? Meet the boat at La Cruz Marina instead of taking the bus.

OCEANO is the one that goes furthest, to Los Arcos and Yelapa as well as the Marietas, with transport included. Sayulita Surf Center fishes: inshore or offshore, rod or spear, and the catch comes back as ceviche. More on that in the fishing guide.

Private Boats for Birthdays and Weddings

Every boat here takes private groups. Ally Cat runs private charters for birthdays, weddings and any other occasion, and has boats sized for small groups and big ones. Book a private boat when your group is big enough to fill one.
