The hidden beaches near Sayulita are the ones with no road to the sand. North of town, a trail from the end of the main beach runs to Las Cuevas and Malpaso. South, past Carricitos, is Patzcuarito. None of them has a bar or a lifeguard, and all of them have strong currents, so they are places to walk to and look at the sea. Check the tide before you head north: the caves between Las Cuevas and Malpaso flood at high tide.
One name causes most of the confusion. Playa Escondida, south of town, is a hotel on its own cove, with no easy public way in over land. And the famous hidden beach at the Marietas Islands is a boat trip, not a walk: it is on the boat tours page.

Take the stairs and trail from the north end of the main beach, and allow thirty to forty minutes. At low tide you can walk through the caves between the two beaches. At high tide they flood, so check the tide before you set off.
Construction and private gates have closed parts of this trail, and some people report being asked for a fee. The sand is public; the land behind it is not. If the way is blocked, turn around.
Patzcuarito sits past Carricitos. You reach it on the cobblestone road toward Punta Sayulita, or over the rocks from Carricitos, in roughly twenty-five to forty minutes from town.
It faces west into big surf with a heavy undertow. Sit, look, and keep your feet on the sand.

It is also not the Marietas hidden beach. That one is Playa del Amor, inside a national park, and you reach it by boat with an authorized operator.
Tell someone where you are going, carry more water than you think, and time the walk so you are back before dark.
