Playa Carricitos is the beach you walk to for the view. Nothing is built on the sand, and it sits on the far side of the hill south-west of town, about twenty to thirty minutes on foot from the plaza. The walk starts with a steep climb out of town on Calle Niños Héroes, then follows a dirt road over the hill. Wear real shoes, and plan to come back the way you went.
It is also not a swimming beach. There is a strong rip current, no lifeguard and nothing on the sand: no chairs, no bar, no shade. Come to walk, sit and watch the surf, and carry everything you need, water first.
The trail starts on the same road as Playa de los Muertos and splits at a fork, so the two make an easy pair. For a beach you can actually swim at, head back to the other Sayulita beaches.

From the plaza, head west on Calle Niños Héroes until it climbs steeply onto a dirt road. At the fork, right goes to Los Muertos and left goes to Carricitos.
Look for an opening in a concrete wall with a sign, and follow the path down to the sand. Give it twenty to thirty minutes, and go in shoes, not sandals.
Carricitos has a strong rip current and no lifeguard, and nobody is close enough to help. Wading at the edge is as far as it goes.
