Fifteen minutes south of the main beach, just past the town cemetery, Playa de los Muertos is the beach Sayulita goes to for a swim. It is quieter than the main beach, and the water is noticeably calmer and clearer than in front of the surf break. Walk it along the shore in about fifteen minutes, or over the hill through town in about twenty.
The name comes from the cemetery on the hill above it, and so does the route: ask anyone in town for the panteón and the beach is a few steps beyond it. On calm days the rocks on the left side are worth a look with a mask, so bring one, along with shade and water.
It is one of Sayulita’s beaches, and the quietest of the easy ones. If you want empty sand and don’t mind a longer walk, keep going to Playa Carricitos on the same trail.

Villas ArrecifeThe flat way follows the shore. Walk south along the main beach and keep going past the houses and small hotels at the end of it. It takes about fifteen minutes.
The other way goes up through town and over the hill with the cemetery on it. It is steeper and takes about twenty minutes, but you see the panteón on the way. Wear shoes you can climb in.
The water here is calmer than on the main beach, which is the whole reason to come. On a flat day it is the easiest swim in town.
